Galbi Jjim is one of the most iconic beef stews. And as we all know, a beef stew could be made many different ways. I'm always surprised to find how many different things can be added or omitted. One of the pleasant surprises was the rice cake. As far as the broth it was rich and sweet, I would say a little tad on the too sweet side for my taste. But nonetheless still delicious. I prefer more radish and expected some Ginko nuts or chestnut and jujubes. The mix of sides or Ban Chan Was really good since they had burdock root and the custard, I really enjoy having something different than the usual and appreciate it. Every time I have a tofu, silky, tofu, hot pot. I'm always amazed at how it can stay steaming hot all the way to the last bite. The pork hot pot is just like a typical hot pot with those surprises. I have to say the seafood is amazing if you like the taste of seafood. It does a really good job of infusing seafood flavors into the broth. There's so many dishes to try and I feel like they land them all pretty good that I'm never disappointed.

This is such a cozy place for dinner! We came for a late dinner and we were seated right away. They were a bit short-staffed but they were apologetic about the slower service so I didn't mind. Here's what we tried - Nakji Doljot Bibimbop: I loved how crispy the rice was. I've never had hot stone bibimbop and was not disappointed. The heat can build up, so be careful if you have a hard time tolerating spice. - Galbi Jjim: I haven't had much galbi jjim but WOW this dish was unforgettable. The meat was tender and the dish had a ton of flavor. The price may seem a bit steep and the bowl looks small, but there is a lot of meat! The banchan was great too and there were lots of side dishes included. Parking is unfortunately not ideal (as is the case for almost every place in Ktown) but worth the fight for this meal.

Hands down. The BEST galbi jjim I've ever had. The galbi is perfectly cooked in the sauce and the meat is so tender. There's something about the sauce, it's unlike any other galbi jjims. I usually drench the sauce with rice and it's just soo good. Sharing one galbi jjim order between two people just isn't enough, and getting two orders might also be too much, so it's kind of a predicament. The wait can be long, but I think it's definitely worth the wait.

I used to live within walking distance to that restaurant, and it was my favorite place where to eat. I'd go once a week or more if I could. I miss it terribly! Everything is good, but you can't go wrong with the ribs, the stone pot bibimbap, and all the banchans your heart desires. They say that LA's Koreatown is second only to Seoul, foodwise. I can believe that now that I've had Korean food in many other US cities. Nothing compares to Seong Buk Dong. Ambiance-wise, it's a small, densely packed restaurant. It gets busy. The parking lot is tight. I recommend going outside of the busiest times.

My visit to Seong Buk Dong in Koreatown, Los Angeles, was quite a pleasant journey back into authentic Korean cuisine. Having tried most restaurants in Koreatown and frequently in Korea, especially many restaurants in the Seong Buk Dong neighborhood in Seoul, I found this establishment's culinary offerings exceptional, placing it comfortably in my top 10 list for Korean food in LA. I'm not kidding - there is this one Korean restaurant in the Seong Buk Dong neighborhood in Seoul (this restaurant is inspired by the food there), and this place tasted VERY similar. The gukbap, a traditional Korean soup, was a standout dish. Its rich, savory broth, steeped in depth and flavor, suggested hours of meticulous simmering. The rice, submerged in this aromatic broth, was cooked to tender perfection, each grain absorbing the broth's essence while maintaining its structural integrity. Each spoonful was a comforting embrace of authentic Korean flavors, reminiscent of the hearty, soulful gukbap one would find in the bustling streets of Korea. Easily 5/5. Beyond the gukbap, the menu at Seong Buk Dong showcased a mastery of classic Korean dishes. The banchan, an assortment of small side dishes, was a kaleidoscope of flavors and textures, each reflecting Korean cuisine's diversity and richness. The main courses continued this trend of excellence, demonstrating an attention to detail and authenticity that is a rarity. Seong Buk Dong is an unmissable destination for anyone in LA seeking an authentic Korean dining experience that is not Korean BBQ. They recently went semi-viral and expanded to the store next door, so there is plenty of space and parking!

Great option for a meal! Randomly stopped in for dinner as we were parked nearby and hungry. Worked out quite well for us. Pretty straight forward menu. Food came out pretty quick and was pretty tasty. Had the dol sot bibimbap and the soft tofu stew. 10/10 would order again.
