BEST banh mi in the city. This place is worth the trek to the Tenderloin. There's always a small line out the door, but the wait is never too long. The employees are always friendly and fast with service. When I was there, they easily took 6 people's orders at once and got us all out in 10 minutes max. I got the xiu mai (pork meatball) banh mi. The meat is so flavorful -- I've gotten the roast pork before as well, and I like the meatball one better for its flavor. The pickled carrots are perfectly sour, and the jalapeños are not overwhelming. It's also a hefty sandwich, they for sure do not skimp out on portions. Saigon Sandwich is a quintessential SF gem. Though it's not flashy or super polished on the inside, it consistently has delicious food. Even the environment of people waiting for their food is ao friendly, it's so clear that this place is a community-beloved shop. It is cash only, but for $5.50 a sandwich, it's hard to find a better deal in the city. An absolute must-try!

When friends were visiting in the city, I had to take them to the infamous Saigon Sandwich for some quick and affordable banh mi sandwiches! First thing I noticed on this trip here was that they raised their prices. It's now $5.50 for their regular sandwiches and $7 for the combo/specials. While it's only a slight increase, they don't skimp on the amount of meat n veggies they pack into these sandwiches. Still the best value and quality I've found at that price point. Most place would charge close to double in 2024. All their banh mi come on a Seimfried roll, and honestly the past couple of times I've come they've been kinda hard. Not sure if they are toasting them too long when you order but some parts of the roll are tougher to bite. Overall, I switch between the pork and chicken. I usually order both, and split halves with someone so I can get both flavors. While it's a great sandwich, I elevate it with some kewpie mayo to add an extra layer of creaminess. Lastly, just a reminder it's still CASH only

wow the hype is real. I have been wanting to venture to the Tenderloin for this legendary bánh mì for about 3 years but didn't have the opportunity to do so until recently when I was volunteering nearby. we went as a group and got almost every type of meat. Saigon Sandwich is quaint and quite analog, as are the ladies who run the shop. a classmate described the service as rude so I was expecting a "mày muốn gì?" situation, but in reality they are adorable & marked my bánh mì đặc biệt with "S" for "special." so so cute order in viet, bring cash, and say cảm ơn if you can ig the 5 star rating is mostly for the incredible value of the sandwich - under $10 in this economy? in sf? hell yeah. they lay the pâté down thicc on the baguette and do not skimp on the fillings. totally worth, would try again

I came to Saigon Sandwich on a Thursday lunchtime and it was clear that the lunch rush was on. I was second in line but a line quickly formed around me as the ladies behind the counter worked furiously to get the buns toasted. I got two roast chicken and roast pork banh mi's, for a whopping total...$22. The store may be in a rough location and they may only take cash, but this is the equivalent to the $1 pizza in NYC that is all but gone - you would be hard pressed to find banh mi for this price anymore. And this is after it seems they've raised the price from the edited menu The banh mi itself - packed tightly with fresh cilantro, pickled carrots, jalapeno, and roast pork with great flavor. For $5.50! I offered a sandwich to my doorman, he wanted to refuse till I told him it was from Saigon Sandwich which he said "oh that's the good stuff", which is a vote of confidence from me

A San Francisco classic, combo sandwiches were $7 (still very reasonable). We got classic pork pate and the roasted pork combo banh mi with fresh toppings of cilantro, pickled carrots, and jalapeños and a special mayo. You can't get better quality for this price point. Next time I will ask for sriracha or chili spice. Service was quick; my friend asked for no cilantro and they obliged.
